Joanne
Spigonardo
Associate Director
Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership
Joanne Spigonardo was appointed to the position of associate
director for the Initiative of Global Environmental Leadership
(IGEL) at the Wharton School in September 2008.
Joanne was a part of the Communications Office of The Wharton
School since 1999. She held positions as business manager
of the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists and for
the Wharton Alumni Magazine. Prior to that she served as
the media relations coordinator.
Joanne graduated from The University of Pennsylvania with
a BA in Italian in 1981. In 2006 Joanne graduated from the
Wharton Program for Working Professionals, Aresty Institute
of Executive Education, with a certificate in HR Management.
She worked as a sales representative for Alitalia Airlines
from 1982-1999, and is fluent in Italian language, knowledgeable
about Italian culture, and travel to Italy.
As a Wharton Mentor in the schools Connections Program,
she coached new employees on professional development. Joanne
is active in Penns Alumni Network, she often assists
with questions a potential applicant may have about Penn.
As a Penn Parent, she is a strong advocate in promoting
Penn whenever possible.
Joanne is a member of Order Sons of Italy, the Public Relations
Society of America, the Council for International Visitors,
and the International Air Transport Association. Joanne
has been on the Board of Governors of the University Club
since 2006.
